covering 2 hectares, and this year it is spread
across 1 hectare of land. Although corn mazes exist in Central Europe, this is the first time
that a corn maze represents one community
and its cultural and natural heritage. The idea
to use a local folk costume’s motif for the
design of the maze is unique to this project.
“Hrvatica” folk costume, a traditional attire

located in Posavski Bregi and it is called the
“Skovačkoga” Corn Maze in Posavina. This
time the inspiration was drawn from the folk
costume from Posavski Bregi, the so-called
“Skovačkoga” motif. The size of the maze
also depends on crop rotation. The first maze
in 2022 was a bit more than half a hectare
big, in 2023 it was almost three times that,
The conceptual design was eventually georeferenced and staked out in the field with
the help of the land surveyor Krešimir
Stipić. Each maze had a gamified experience which enabled further exploration of
the local cultural and historic heritage. The
ethnological research and preparation of the
digital game was created and implemented
by the ethnologist Katarina Matkerić.

Sustainable tourism in practice:
A maze which leaves no trail
The Corn Maze in Posavina is a fully
sustainable seasonal attraction. After the
Corn Maze in Posavina is closed for visitors in the fall, the farmer will harvest the
remaining corn for his own needs. The
local civil society members will keep the
information panels placed in the maze
for the purpose of further presentation of
their heritage. The land plot will remain
empty as at the beginning of this seasonal attraction. Also, QR codes are used for
the gamified experience to further reduce
waste and protect the environment, thus
preventing additional production and
printing of worksheets.
