Maze in Posavina
among the TOP 100
The Corn Maze in Posavina was put
on the Green Destinations 2024 TOP
100 Stories List, together with five other
projects from Croatia. The tenth issue
of Green Destinations 2024 TOP 100
Stories List shares and promotes stories about innovative and efficient initiatives and projects from destinations
working on more responsible tourism
development. The 2024 issue resulted
in an inspirational collection of stories
of good practice from 32 countries. The
selection criteria included elements
such as story quality, transferability,
level of innovation and presence of
all pillars of sustainability. “Just being
added to the list helped us achieve
several key steps regarding destination
development. In addition to passing
the information on to hundreds of thousands of people, there is also a series
of activities connected to this project
which are yet to take place.” The Corn
Maze in Posavina has achieved exceptional success and gained the attention
of the public thanks to its sustainability,
environmental responsibility and
return to tradition.
An added value is precisely the use of local
identity as the main motif. A variation from
the usual design process is also visible
in the fact that the aim of the maze is not
to find an exit because the design itself
enables just the opposite. The aim is to
take the visitors through the entire space,
encourage them to explore, doing so in the
form of play while enjoying educational
stories about local history. Finally, the project can be implemented in any rural area.
Each space has its own inherent value and
character which can be interpreted in different natural attractions, with a meaningful
integration of the existing spatial features.

Folk costumes’ motifs as an
inspiration for the maze’s design
A local farmer is cultivating the land and
planting corn, according to the agreed
crop rotation. This is why the location was
changed. The first two mazes were located
in Dubrovčak Lijevi and they were called
the “Hrvatica” Corn Maze in Posavina, after the motif used as an inspiration for the
maze’s design. The motif was taken from the
